United Nations Day 2017

October 27, 2017 at Colgate University

UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. October 24 has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by Member States as a public holiday. The Upper Mohawk Valley UNA-USA is happy to bring this annual global initiative to the high school students of our local community.

UN Day 2017

This year's UN Day program will be on October 27, 2017 from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. The program will be hosted by Colgate University in the Golden Auditorium in Little Hall and O'Connor Campus Center. The theme for UN Day 2017 is Global Goals, Local Leaders.

We encourage high school teachers of social studies and foreign language, guidance councilors, and Model United Nations club advisers to gather their interested students together for a day to reflect upon and honor the values conveyed in the UN Charter, to further their awareness about important global issues and international politics, to experience multiculturalism, and to learn more about the importance of involvement in their local community.

If your school plans to attend our UN Day 2017 program, please take the time to carefully review each of the four links found below, including completing the online registration form at your earliest convenience. We ask that all schools register no later than October 13.
